Continuing our adventure in recreating restaurant dishes at home, Stephen and I have been working on stir fried Shanghai Rice Cakes with little success. It’s one of our favourite dishes at Shanghai Dim Sum and one we order all the time. I was convinced the vegetable used was a kind of pickled Chinese cabbage. After...

Khao San Road reopened last February in a new bigger, brighter 2 storey space and pretty much immediately a line formed outside. The first floor houses Khao San Road and tables are still as popular as ever. Upstairs houses a new bar from the owners, Bang Sue, that’s open later (until 2am) with a great...

For me, the best kind of izakaya has a lively atmosphere, fresh sashimi, a variety of tapas dishes and an amazing drink menu. At first glance, Ebisu fits all of those requirements. The new...

TRAVEL
Last October, one of The Hubby’s groomsmen got married in Vancouver. We flew out Thursday night and spent the weekend catching up with our West Coast friends and eating a lot of Japanese food.
COOKS
I’m convinced that in a previous life I was a pampered house cat. I love afternoon naps in a spot of sun and love eating fish, from head to tail, skin, fins and all. My favourite way to eat fish is steamed whole, a traditional Asian method of preparation.
